Sea Level

Fabienne Levy Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of the first solo show in Switzerland of the artist Vikenti Komitski: Sea Level. 
The artist was born in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1983. He lives and works in Berlin, Germany 

The exhibition features a complete new body of works made to create an immersive in situ experience.

Komitski creates assemblages, often made out of found materials. He addresses issues of environmental changes and the relation between nature and culture at a time in which human activity has been the dominant influence on climate and its consequences.

A single tourist ad like an image of a stereotypical palm tree leaning over a tropic beach haunts the show . Our world champions the creation of fantasy and perfection. Ultimately this image brings to light that the dream of an untouched preserved natural beach will be creating its own destruction. 
The nightmare of our time resides in the memory of how earth was, conflicting with the reality of what it became and the fight to recover what we have lost.

The topic of circularity and repetition are also brought up in 2 of Komitski most important works: The sculpture “Closed Circuit” and the neon work “End of the Circle”. They both deal with the existence of closed and repetitive ecological systems but also existentialist questions. The search of a perfect landscape is always on our mind, an obsession to possess and a nightmare to keep.

The artist’s pieces look like relics of some indefinite past, created with objects of the present, referring to possible futures. 

Sea Level is seen as a tool to measure time which is suspended between the fragilities of our world, where natural and cultural, organic and artificial are mixed; yet they remain unique in their essence.
