In “Cat’s Dinner” Tang Shuo’ recounts his initial encounter when he was
around six years old. His neighbor had a white cat, and Tang quickly
became found of him. One day he suddenly passed away. Growing up in a
community where animals were viewed merely as food, the loss wasn’t
given much emotional weight. However, a haunted dream followed, where
the white cat transformed into a black one, where Tang became its prey
and was pursued by him.
