In “Mascara” is showcased the vivid and provocative exploration of one’s gender identity, challenging its boundaries through the power of makeup and more specifically through the use of “our mum’s mascara” as stated by the artist. We can also find the poignant symbolism of crying black tears while not accepting gender boundaries and definitely crossing them, and ultimately embracing the true essence of one’s identity. It is, at its core, an artistic expression that celebrates the utilization of paint, or makeup, as a powerful medium for self-expression. Ultimately, it conveys a powerful message about utilizing paint as a means of expressing a political standpoint.
